The Cleveland City Stars are owned by the Cleveland Soccer Foundation that operates as a 501 (c)(3) non profit organization that is dedicated to serving the inner city of Cleveland, engaging the economically disadvantaged as well as making a difference and changing the World through soccer.

In the year that the Cleveland Soccer Foundation was founded the City of Cleveland was recognized as the poorest major city in the United States.

With this in mind, part of the mission of the Cleveland City Stars is:
  • To bring encouragement to the lives of the economically disadvantaged and underprivileged youth living in the inner City of Cleveland through the sport that is known throughout the world as “the beautiful game”.  Soccer is a game that instills a sense of joy and excitement to those who play, especially the youth.

  • To provide education programs and positive role models to the youth in the inner city through soccer training, developmental soccer coaching programs and coaching education clinics, computer education programs and reading delivered by the players to offer the “helping hand” to those living within the inner city.

.

The professional players and coaches of the Cleveland City Stars voluntarily develop and deliver the coaching and life lesson training to the youth at inner city fields. As a result the children who are receiving this high level of soccer education and learning important life lessons from these professional athletes become empowered to be the best they can be on the field, in their homes, and in their community.   In order to make this happen, the Cleveland City Stars have partnered with the City of Cleveland, the Cleveland Recreation Department, the Salvation Army and others to directly impact over 1,200 children in the inner city and even more indirectly by coaching the coaches of the City Recreation Department enabling them to coach soccer effectively. In addition, the Cleveland Soccer Foundation has established working relationships with Charter One Bank, local business owners, and other community leaders to deliver the educational programs necessary to address the problem of literacy among disadvantaged children in the inner city.
